In the name of Allah, The Most Gracious and The Most Merciful
Alhamdulillah. I just went back from Daurah Pengisian Bahan for this semester which was held at Masjid Ubudiyah Seksyen 19, Shah Alam..Overall, I would say the input was awesome as I get new information on Sirah Nabawiyah. The speaker was Ustaz Abdul Muhaimin, I think one of the JIMs..;)
Sirah Nabawiyah
When we talk about sirah, we will always relate it with the word 'sejarah'. 'Sejarah' which means any events happened in the past. Also known as history. Sirah, sejarah and history bring the same meaning which usually bring the same connotation to most people; BORING. I still remember during my school years, Sejarah would be the last subject for me to like. ---Alhamdulillah, still got 1 for SPM..hee~(",)---**off topic**
But, why do we have this kind of perception towards what we called as sejarah, history or sirah? My answer would be, "because we don't want to learn..."
People always say, experience is the best teacher..Yes, I absolutely agree..Experience means something that we had done in the past, whether it turned out to be good or bad experience. Bad, might due to careless and silly mistakes, while on the other hand, good experience would motivates us to improve and getting better in the future. But, IF ONLY we learn from the past experience..!(take note: I'm using the word 'past'>>>history)
It goes the same for Sirah Nabawiyah (History of the Prophets). As Muslims, we usually do not even bother to know what happened in the past during Rasulullah's era in spreading "Lailahaillallah" (No God but Allah) at the Holy Land 1400++ years ago.. We might learn 'Malaysian Studies', Sejarah KBSM, etc, but how about the sirah..??? even for religious school, they receive formal education about sirah as one of the subjects, but how far, the knowledge being applied and practiced in our living today??
Sirah functions as a lesson for us to learn from..(again, the word 'learn' here), and why it is so?
Most of the events happened nowadays, depict what had happened in the past...as the proverb says life is a cycle. My lecturer had once said, "Shakespeare used to be the greatest poet in the world due to the issues of his writings. It suits to all human kind, regardless which era we are living in as long as we are named 'human'."
This shows that what happened in the past had not much different from what happened today. The technologies might be advanced but the way we administer and manouvre the gadgets might similarly the same. It is not the matter of devices, gadgets, or facilites that we have today, but it is more about the mentality, and attitudes of the individuals, the person, and the human itself.
We should not have reason to avoid learning from the sirah. People might say, "Alah, zaman nabi, buleh la.." People in 'zaman nabi' still human..not have much different though!
I have not yet khatam all the sirah of Nabawiyah, but with this little knowledge I got, I notice sirah has so much contribution on what we are leading now..sometimes I do feel sad on what had happened to our Muslim world. We used to be a great ummah hundred years ago, but in present, Muslim seems getting backward almost towards jahiliyyah era..What happened to all the "zaman kegemilangan ilmu"??? In fact, with all the intellectual advanced nowadays, we should be able to filter the negatives and extract the positive part of the sirah as reference in leading the world today..but..it seemes to happen the other way round..we filter the positive and moves on with all the negatives elements...
IF ONLY we LEARN from the past, how they preserved and uphold ISLAM practices to the fullest and manage to conquer the whole world, west-to-east MUSLIMs will not be how we are now.. (T_T)
